India’s growing appreciation for concerts is redefining culture

November 22, 2024

India’s live music scene has evolved into a global cultural hotspot, joining cities like Tokyo, Singapore, and Seoul in hosting world-renowned artists. Once dominated by college fests and local gigs, the trend now sees international superstars bringing standalone concerts to cities like Mumbai and Delhi. The shift signifies Asia’s growing prominence in the global arts scene, supported by advanced venues and expansive audiences.

Instead of travelling to catch shows in New York, London, or Dubai, Indian fans can now enjoy electrifying performances at home. This new chapter began with iconic events like Coldplay’s Global Citizen Festival in 2016 and has expanded to include Ed Sheeran’s frequent visits, Diljit Dosanjh’s sold-out tours, and upcoming acts like Dua Lipa and Coldplay in January 2025.

Asia’s rise in the arts scene is fueled by advanced venues, thriving urban centres , and audiences eager for immersive cultural experiences. Cities across the continent are no longer just stops but integral destinations on global tour maps. India’s embrace of these trends reflects not just an appetite for live music but also its growing identity as a hub for world-class cultural events. This evolution signifies not just a shift in entertainment but also a cultural renaissance that places India at the heart of global art and music movements.
