There is a panoply of summery drinks to make and try this season
With summers come a multitude of methods to beat the heat, whether it is in terms of consumption or changing interior spaces. Among the more popular options are a panoply of drinks like aamras, shikanji, and everyone’s favourite rose sherbet. But besides these mainstays, there’s so much more to discover. We have brought you a few options to check out.
Starting off with the king of fruits, mango works amazingly well with beverages. Whether it is aamras with your meal, mango shake in the morning, or the tangy aam panna — every drink associated with this fruit is just refreshingly golden. So we bring to you a mango drink that might not be known by everyone.
Mango mastani is a delightful take on the mango shake that is popular in Pune. The difference between your regular mango shake and mastani is that the latter has a higher concentration of the fruit than milk. Add to that a copious amount of dry fruits and a pinch of cinnamon, and you have a drink that will keep you charged throughout the day.
A fruit that doesn’t often get its due is the wood apple. Its juice is known to help on hot days, however, it is the magical concoction known as bel sherbet that has gone under the radar. Made by mixing the fruit pulp with lemon juice and some sugar, this drink is as good as, if not better, than any cure for dehydration.
Coastal heat is a different beast to the regular warming that the mainland experiences, so it calls for a different cure. While thandai is well-known, Madurai’s variant on it, called jigarthanda, does exactly what it says. Made from a mixture of thickened milk, ice cream, khoya, nannari syrup, and almond gum, this drink with a gelatinous consistency charges you right up.
So which one are you giving a shot this weekend?
